Team New Zealand Unveils Their America’s Cup Boat

The America’s Cup new boat has been unveiled by the Emirates Team New Zealand. This new boat is a sleek one and is 50 feet long. This wing sailed catamaran is currently doing its test rounds on the Auckland waters. The skipper of the Emirates Team New Zealand team Glenn Ashby did not want to lose precious time to test this new beauty.

The skipper and the crew are looking to get acclimatized with the new boat and are also into training mode on this new catamaran. One of the interesting things that people who spotted the team testing the waters noted is that the crew was seen pushing pedals rather than using the turn handles and this came as a big surprise to everyone.

The NZ chief executive, Grant Dalton, told Plain Sailing Yacht Charter that there has been a lot of interest from all quarters about the cycling on the boat. This has got the opponents of the Team New Zealand in a huddle and to evaluate their possibilities during the race. The boat for the Emirates Team New Zealand was made after a lot of deliberations and thinking. The boats that are in operation these days are based on modern technologies and assumptions. This is how the New Zealand team’s new boat is also built.

The boat was named by Tina Symmans, a team director on the board and it was done in the presence of sailors and crew, their families, official suppliers and the sponsors. There is no doubt that the Emirates Team New Zealand is very happy to get the new catamaran and to test it before the big AC race.

The America’s Cup race will be held in Bermuda this year. The NZ team will be looking to make the new boat to good use and to ensure that the Emirates Team enjoys a podium finish at the end of the 35th edition of the America’s Cup.
