Introduction

At the moment a lot of kitesurfers travel to the Canary Islands for the good conditions. Fuerte ventura is one of the largest islands and has one of the best places for kite and windsurfing. There are endless quit, sandy, unspoiled beaches on the island, which becomes also more popular by tourists. They're 2 well-known places to go. In the south, Sotavento, in the north Corralejo.

Wind & Climate Fuerteventura

The windiest time in Fuerte Ventura is during the summer when a big high pressure sits over the Atlantic and a low over the Sahara. This combination gives reliable cross-shore winds at Flag Beach (Corralejo). In Sotavento a double acceleration is caused by the trade winds being funnelled through the mountains to create significantly stronger winds than the north.

Kitesurfing Fuerteventura

The beach in the North village Corralejo is called flagbeach. On Flag beach you have cross-shore winds from the left. There is a sandy beach, which is a good place to start your kite from.
200 meter of shore is a deep reef that can provide great waves. Ideal to learn wave riding. Other good wave spots are Glass beach, Majanicho and Cotillio.

Strong winds and water conditions from flat up to 2-meter waves make Sotavento in the south a perfect spot for kite and windsurfers. Located on the beautiful white sand beach with crystal-clear turquoise water for miles. The North/East wind, which comes from the mountains, is a little bit offshore. In the autumn, winter and spring the wind can also blow onshore from the East/South. The two Rene Egli center`s offer dream conditions for all levels from beginner to advanced. Sometimes the lagoon between the 2 centres will fill up with water (knee deep). Which can provide some perfect flat water kiting. Also the lagoon makes it with out a doubt the perfect place to learn how to kite.

Getting to Fuerteventura

From the airport to Corralejo or Sotavento is by car approximately 40 minutes. You don't need a car but it will be handy to travel around the whole island. There are so many good spots to go, but only by car.

Other Activities

- Surfing
- Carting

Nightlife in Fuerteventura

Corralejo offers a lot of good restaurants to choose from. Spanish and international cuisine, catering for everyone's budget. It is well worth making the effort to get to Cotillo to sample fresh fish. Of the many bars, Corky's, as well as others, have surf videos running all night. For a really great party go to Waikiki. Here can you stay until the morning.

Sotavento evenings are mostly hotel based, relaxing over dinner or in one of the hotel bars. A short shuttle bus ride or taxi ride away are the resorts of Costa Calma and Jandia, which offer a low-key selection of bars and nightlife. Fuerte Action Cafe and Restaurant Bar in Costa Calma is a popular meeting place from breakfast until late at night.
